A Note from the Regent
Remember the old saying “Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow will keep the postman from delivering the mail”? Hmmmm – we will have to rethink this a bit. Our newsletter was delivered to the Rosenberg post office on the morning of Monday, August 30 and took two weeks to arrive at our doorsteps. I do hope that everyone has received theirs. The internet must be the way to go these days. As with many happenings in our lives we must move forward and hope each day and each event turns out well. Now with the bumpy start behind us, we can look forward to bringing you the CDA news more quickly.
We have a lot of events to look forward to the rest of 2010. With Holy Rosary Parish about to kick off our 100 year celebration on Sunday October 3, we all have a chance to participate in the various celebrations planned for a whole year. Many of us are already involved in the planning of this memorable year.
October is the month of the rosary, so let us keep our Blessed Mother in our daily thoughts and pray to her for guidance.
Worthy Regent
Rose Pederson
"Say the Rosary every day...Pray, pray a lot and offer sacrifices for sinners.
I'm Our Lady of the Rosary. Only I will be able to help you. ...In the end My Immaculate Heart will triumph."

National & State News
Good News from National!
By Sheila Martinka, Worthy State Regent
I have some very exciting news! I have received a letter from our National Regent, Joanne Tomassi announcing our National Supervisor for Texas. As you all know, Duchess Collins completed her 2nd term as National Director and as our National Supervisor. In July, at the National Convention, Olga Samaniego was elected as one of the nine National Directors. Joanne Tomassi has appointed her as our National Supervisor! We are very honored and excited to have Olga aboard as our National Supervisor for Texas. I know you will make her feel welcome in her new role!
Habitat for Humanity
The Texas State Court of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas is pleased to announce the 4th Habitat Build which will be constructed at 711 East A Street in Eagle Lake, Texas. The opening ceremony will begin at 9:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 2 with Mass at St. Anthony's Church in Columbus followed by the groundbreaking ceremony in Eagle Lake. The house will be built for Martin and Linda Sanchez and their granddaughter Samantha. Norma Locker, Rose Pederson and Cathy and Larry Bittner will be attending. Please call any of us if you wish to attend with us.
The house will be a two bedroom, one bath, approximately 900 square feet. The work days for this project will be on Fridays and Saturdays. The house should be "dried in" by mid-December and ready for licensed subcontractors to take over. Our goal is to complete the house before the state convention in April 2011. The project requires the support of all CDA members in Texas. Court Holy Rosary #1476 has donated $100.00 but our court is also asked to help participate by providing snacks and a meal for a work day. We will discuss this at our October meeting. Anyone wishing to volunteer in the build itself can get with Cathy Bittner or Rose Pederson as we will need to fill out forms to be processed. Hostesses are also needed to greet the workers, fill out forms, and so forth. The worksite Hostess Coordinator is Darice Miksch. Her email address is dtm54@hotmail.com. More information can be found on the Texas State CDA website.
Morality in Media
Pornography Awareness Week ~ Sunday, October 31 - November 7, 2010 and all year long. Our court has been involved with the White Ribbon Against Pornography (WRAP) Campaign for several years. We will discuss the passing out of white ribbons at the Masses again this year at the October 5 meeting.
Local News
CDA Sunday Update
St. Isadore of The Land #2340 is hosting a district wide celebration of CDA Sunday on October 17. You are invited to bring your family. We will be having Mass at 10:00 A.M. at St Michael's Catholic Church on 9214 Main in Needville, Texas, with a lunch to follow.
There will also be a small raffle, a short talk, and door prizes. Come to enjoy a day of fellowship with Catholic Daughters in our area. I will have a sign up sheet on the table at our October 5 meeting. Please sign up if you and your family plan to attend so I can give Jo Svatek, Regent, a count of expected attendees. The theme for this year is "For in Him, we live and move and have our being". (Acts 17:28)
Adoptive Family
By Mary Beth Haas & Gloria Zdunkewicz, Chairpersons
We visited with the family in July and delivered the $50 gift card along with the food from the June meeting. The family is doing fine. The father was working and the children were managing at home during the summer. Rose Pederson called and asked that we purchase school supplies, which we did. They were delivered and the children were excited and happy. Instead of purchasing clothing we gave them a gift card so the father could get the correct size clothes.
It has been a year since we had this family. We are checking with the St Vincent de Paul group to obtain a new family. We hope to have more information at the October meeting.
Month of the Rosary
The month of October each year is dedicated to the Most Holy Rosary. This is primarily due to the fact that the liturgical feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is celebrated annually on October 7. It was instituted to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary in gratitude for the protection that she gives the Church in answer to the praying of the Rosary by the faithful.
The feast was introduced by Pope St. Pius V (1504-1572) in the year 1571 to commemorate the miraculous victory of the Christian forces in the Battle of Lepanto on October 7, 1571. Legend tells us that the Rosary as a form of prayer was given to St. Dominic (1170- 1221) by Mary, the Mother of Our Lord, who entrusted it to him as an aid in the conflicts with the Albigensians. The Dominican pope, St. Pius V, did much to further the spread of the Rosary and it thereafter became one of the most popular devotions in Christendom. It was the same Pope St. Pius V, who in 1569 officially approved the Rosary in its present form with the Papal Bull, Consueverunt Romani Pontifices. It had been completed by the addition of the second half of the "Hail Mary" and the "Glory be to the Father" at the conclusion of each mystery.
Member News
In Memoriam
In memory of Dorothy Pospisil, Past Regent of Court Holy Rosary #1476 and Past District Deputy of District 10.
Dorothy was a 51 year member and she received one the top District Deputy awards for Texas. Dorothy was an avid member of Catholic Daughters. She was instrumental in bringing the Catholic Student Clerical Fund Memorial program into our court as well as being an enthusiastic and very active member. Last year in the midst of chemo treatments, Dorothy, with the assistance of Herman, created a beautiful artificial wedding cake to display at our CDA cake spin booth at the Holy Rosary bazaar. We are grateful for all of her endeavors and will miss her dearly. Please keep Herman and his family in your prayers.
Thoughts and Prayers
Please keep our CDA sisters Alma Slawinski, Rose Thumann and Gay Collette in your prayers.

Humor Corner - Don’t Miss the Signs
A religious man is on top of a roof during a great flood. A man comes by in a boat and says "get in, get in!” The religious man replies, “no - I have faith in God, he will grant me a miracle".
Later the water is up to his waist and another boat comes by and the guy tells him to get in again. He responds that he has faith in God and God will give him a miracle. With the water at about chest high, another boat comes to rescue him, but he turns down the offer again because "God will grant him a miracle".
With the water at chin high, a helicopter throws down a ladder and they tell him to get in, mumbling with the water in his mouth, he again turns down the request for help for the faith of God. He arrives at the gates of heaven with broken faith and says to St. Peter "I thought God would grant me a miracle and I have been let down". St. Peter chuckles and responds "I don't know what you're complaining about. We sent you three boats and a helicopter.
