January 2008 newsletter

A Note from the Regent

I expect that 2008 will be a banner year for CDA. As we listen to the Lord together, I know that He will put us all to work, and we will be busier than ever. Whatever tasks we are given, as we offer our hearts and hands to him. He will unite us and make us strong in Him----------and in Him, we can do all things.

Janey Schumacher

Today's Thought

Reminding you that while all efforts should be made to be kind, there are people out there whose nature is completely hostile, where kindness doesn’t work. For the non-professional therapist, often the best response is non-contact. Each person in life has challenges and you are not responsible for fixing everyone. Help those you can, but be realistic and stay away from those who will harm you.

Dues are due this Month

Remember, dues are due in January. We need your dues to help us pay our taxes, both National and State. Jeanette Hudec collects the dues.

Christmas Party, Tuesday, December 4, 2007, 6:00 pm

Court Holy Rosary held their annual Christmas Party on Tuesday, December 04, 2007 at the K.C.Hall. The theme was thanks and appreciation for all the hard work from the ladies that help and keep the court running. The hall was decorated with beautiful Christmas décor in a setting of candy canes and poinsettias. A big thank you to Jeannette Hudec and Betty Overgoner for the decorations. The tables were set up so no one was crowded. It was wonderful.

The baked ham dinner was provided by BEN’S CHUCK WAGON of Wallis, Texas and delicious desserts were provided by the Catholic Daughters. After dessert, those members participating in Secret Sisters revealed themselves after an entire year of waiting. Then everyone looked under their chair to see if they were a big winner. Finally, a Christmas party game song quiz was played to see who knew their Christmas songs.

A BIG THANKS TO CATHY and LARRY BITNER FOR HELPING WITH THE DRINKS.

Also, big thanks to AMELIA BURKE and KATY FRANKLIN for the delicious appetizers.

Also, thanks go out to Joyce Bowker & Margaret Broussard for getting the delicious desserts.

In addition, I want to thank all of the ladies that decorated and helped at the party. We could not have done it without you.

Special guests were Deacon Jim Bonara and wife Velma, Kenneth Hajdik, his wife, Mary Sue and daughter Shelly.

Shelly took pictures for our party. She is studying to be a professional photographer. Shelly is sending me the CD, I will give it to Jill to put on our website, so everyone can see what fun we had.

So! Ladies, if you missed this party, you really missed a party, we had so much fun. Next year will be even better, so come see what I have planned for next year.

2008 Fundraiser and Raffle

I would like the Court to start planning the 2008 raffle. We will have a sign-up sheet at the January meeting for prizes. The prizes will be finalized at the February meeting. The tickets will be printed and distributed at the March meeting.

If any lady would like to volunteer to help get prizes from the merchants, it would be appreciated. Helen works, and does not have time to go from merchant to merchant. Thank You.

52nd National Convention, July 16-20, 2008

The 52nd Biennial National Convention of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas will be held in Albuquerque, New Mexico, July 16-20, 2008.

I have just received the forms for registration of delegates and alternates to the convention. We can send 4 delegates and 8 alternates this year. I would like to at least have 4 delegates go to national, so please consider going to New Mexico.

We have a big court, and it is a shame we cannot get more ladies to go to the convention. If you do not go, or have never been, you are missing one of the great events being a Catholic Daughter.

I am proud of all that are willing to go. Thanks.

Local Courts shall elect delegates to the National Convention at a business meeting preceding the deadline for submitting delegate registration to the National Office. (Postmark Deadline: March 15, 2008)

The Raffle tickets will be at the meeting on the sign-up table at the January meeting.

Birthdays!!

January is Catholic Daughters of the Americas       Pro-Life Month

At the August 2001 meeting of the National Board, a resolution was adopted that names January as “Catholic Daughters of the Americas Pro-Life Month. Pro-Life activities should be going on all twelve months but January is especially important because of the January 22 anniversary of the 1973 Supreme Court Decision legalizing abortion on demand.
