Ho! Ho! Ho! From the Regent
As we enter the Advent season we are reminded of the coming celebration of the birth of Jesus, the Son of God. During this season we have the opportunity to prepare ourselves for this important event.
We can look at Mary as our model for charity during Advent. Although she was with child, Mary visited her cousin Elizabeth who was also with child. By this act Mary shared the good news of the coming of Christ. Similarly, we can perform acts of charity to our brothers and sisters in Christ by visiting the sick and those in the nursing homes, comforting the lonely and the homebound, giving rides to the elderly to CDA meetings and for church services. Participation in the various Church Ministries is also an important act of charity.
In these days of a fast-paced materialistic culture let us not forget that Christ is first on Christ-mas. We pray to our Patroness, the Virgin Mary, that she may help us discern what the Holy Spirit inspires us to do to share the good news of Christmas.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and yours.
Norma N. Locker
Worthy Regent

A Polish Joke (with apologies to any Polish Reader)
A Polish man moved to the USA and married an American girl. Although his English was far from perfect, they got along very well until one day he rushed into a lawyer's office and asked him if he could arrange a divorce.
Have you any grounds? Yes, an acre and a half, a nice little home.
No, I mean what is the foundation of this case? It is made of concrete.
I don't think you understand. Does either of you have a grudge? No, we have a carport, and not need one.
I mean, what are your relations like? All my relations still in Poland.
Is there any infidelity in your marriage? We have hi-fidelity stereo and good DVD player.
Does your wife beat you up? No, I always up before her.
Why do you want this divorce? She is going to kill me.
What makes you think that? I got proof.
What kind of proof? She is going to poison me. She bought a bottle at a drugstore and put it on shelf in bathroom. I can read, and it says 'Polish Remover'.
(Ed’s Note: Jokes are included in this issue to lighten the reader’s spirit during this hectic and tumultuous Christmas season.)

State Convention in McAllen, Texas

Father Bill is encouraging members to attend this convention. A monetary donation was approved by the members as a gift for the convention raffle which was sent to Peggy Rosales, State Secretary.
A Tired Dog
An older, tired-looking dog wandered into my yard; I could tell from his collar and well-fed belly that he had a home and was well taken care of.
He calmly came over to me, I gave him a few pats on his head; he then followed me into my house, slowly walked down the hall, curled up in the corner and fell asleep.
An hour later, he went to the door, and I let him out.
The next day he was back, greeted me in my yard, walked inside and resumed his spot in the hall and again slept for about an hour. This continued off and on for several weeks.
Curious I pinned a note to his collar: 'I would like to find out who the owner of this wonderful sweet dog is and ask if you are aware that almost every afternoon your dog comes to my house for a nap.'
The next day he arrived for his nap, with a different note pinned to his collar: 'He lives in a home with 6 children, 2 under the age of 3 - he's trying to catch up on his sleep. Can I come with him tomorrow?'
