A Note from the Regent

Christmas?? Again?? Already?? How in the world did that happen? I cannot believe another year and another year older. It seems only yesterday I was 21 and having a good time. Oh well, at least I have some good memories when I used to dance all night and then go to church in the morning. Now, I barely make it to church Sunday morning after going to bed at 10:00 pm.

The Catholic Daughters have been busy this year. Whether making rosaries, presenting scholarships, baking cakes or selling raffle tickets, our members have worked very hard this year to fulfill our mission of Unity and Charity.

I appreciate the input that each member offers to this Court and value the opinions that you share. Please don't be a stranger! Make a point to attend our Christmas party this year and then join us in January as we embark on our best year ever! I would like to wish each and everyone of you a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Janey Schumacher

Today's Quote

"Some people come into our lives and leave -- others leave imprints on our hearts and we are never the same."

M. Joan McKenna, Immediate Past National Regent

November 2007 Meeting

The Court Holy Rosary was another busy gathering of more than 40 of our members. Our evening began by having a Memorial Service for all deceased members. Then, it was down to business! It was decided that we would have a bake sale after the masses on the weekend of December 15-16, 2007. This money will go toward scholarships and Read Across America. So, ladies, please bake your best Christmas dessert to be sold that weekend. The Chair for the bakesale is Normal Locker.

Christmas Party, Tuesday, December 4, 2007, 6:00 pm

Sorry, I had the wrong date in last month's newsletter

Court Holy Rosary is busy preparing for our annual Christmas Celebration. This year's party will be held on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at the Rosenberg K. C. Hall.

THE COURT WILL DECORATE THE HALL ON SUNDAY, DECEMBER 2, 2007 AT 4:00 PM. IF ANYONE CAN HELP, PLEASE COME.

Decoration chairs - Jeanette Hudec & Betty Overgoner

Appetizer chairs - Amelia Burke & Cathy Franklin

Dessert chairs - Joyce Bowker & Barbara Jean Sacheli

THE COURT NEEDS HELP THE NIGHT OF THE PARTY. IF YOU CAN HELP, PLEASE COME AROUND 5:30 PM AND ASK WHAT YOU CAN DO. THANKS.

The deadline for reservations is December 1, 2007, so make your reservations early. Call Janey or Helen (see your CDA directory). The meal is $8.00 a plate. Invite your husbands and anyone else that you think would like to come to the party.

2008 Fundraiser and Raffle

I would like the Court to start planning the 2008 raffle. We will have a sign-up sheet at the January meeting for prizes. The prizes will be finalized at the February meeting. The tickets will be printed and distributed at the March meeting.

If any lady would like to volunteer to help get prizes from the merchants, it would be appreciated. Helen works, and does not have time to go from merchant to merchant. Thank You.

National Court Makes Changes to National Projects and Charities

Catholic Daughters have had the same National Projects for many years and have added several voluntary National Charities. Some of the National Projects are not as 'crucial' as they once were, so therefore, as of July 2007, there are FIVE (5) National Projects to which each court should contribute a minimum of $15.00 per project per year and NINE (9) National Charities to which courts may voluntarily choose to contribute. National recommends that each court support at least one or two of these National Charities. The FIVE (5) National Projects that each court should contribute $15.00 each to are:

  • Disaster Relief
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Holy Cross Family Rosary / Father Peyton
  • The Smile Train
  • SOAR

CDA 1476 Website

Courty Holy Rosary #1476 now has a website - http://cda1476.org

Jill Sumpter is hard at work putting it together. It will have the newsletters, events of the Court, all the committees and names of the chairpersons, and we are trying to get the history of the court on the website.

Thank you so much, Jill, for everything you are doing.

Go Green to Help Save Some Green

Did you know paper and paper products make up the largest amount of products in our municipal waste stream? Thirty-eight percent of all products in landfills are paper including newspapers, paper plates and this newsletter. The National Court, through our Quality of Life program of the Circle of Love has asked each of us to do our part to help save our environment. There is an easy way to do that. Stop getting the CDA Newsletter in your mailbox and get it in your inbox instead. By getting the newsletter emailed to you, rather than mailed to you, we save the Court money as well.

If you would like to get the Newsletter emailed to you, please email the directory Chair at pat.schimara@sbcglobal.net. Type the words, NEWSLETTER EMAIL LIST in the Subject line of your email.

Having the newsletter emailed to you is optional. You may still receive the Newsletter in the mail.

CDA Multi-District Meeting - January 19, 2008

I have received an email from Carolyn Rapsilver informing the Court Holy Rosary #1476, of the multi-district meeting to be held in Wallis on January 19, 2008 at 8:00 am. Past Regent Olga Samaniego will present a spiritual activity on prayer and unity. Olga is a wonderful speaker. There is a $5.00 per person charge for defray the cost of the meeting.

I would like as many ladies to go as possible.

There will be a sign-up sheet at the January meeting. Pay Jeannette at the meeting.

Christmas Tree Blessing

Holy Creator of Trees, bless with your abundant grace this our Christmas tree as a symbol of joy.

May its evergreen branches be a sign of your never-fading promises.

May its coloful lights and ornaments call us to decorate with love our home and our world.

May the gifts that surround this tree be symbols of the gifts we have received from the Tree of Christ's Cross.

Holy Christmas tree within our home, may Joy and Peace come and nest in your branches and in our hearts.

Amen.
